Sam is equipped with a strong academic background and thorough knowledge of mechanical, electrical and particularly electronic engineering. He takes pride in his practical understanding and approach to clients' inventions. Out of the office, Sam is never far from making or repairing something!
Sam has over 25 years' professional experience. His work includes many cases from Japan and the USA, for example in the electronics, office technology and automotive fields. He has established long-standing and valued contacts and friendships as a result.
Whether drafting or prosecuting applications, Sam excels at quickly establishing a fundamental understanding of the technical invention and then translating that into appropriate language for specifications or submissions. He has handled a vast number of cases. Sam stresses the importance of communicating with clients, adding value and explaining issues as necessary, but most importantly considering an individual client's particular needs and commercial goals.
Sam has regular involvement with UK and European clients, drafting initial applications and progressing patent families, in the major countries like Europe, the USA, Japan and China and also in less usual countries in South America and Asia. Sam has been involved in several large product development projects, seeing them through the initial freedom to use searches, on to patent prosecution and finally into production.
Sam joined J A Kemp in 1990 and became a partner in 2002. He is based in our London office.
