Jane has over 30 years' experience of filing and prosecuting patent applications, particularly at the European Patent Office (EPO). She is highly experienced in filing and defending oppositions and appeals before the EPO. This includes strategic planning of the case and preparing written briefs. She has also attended many oral proceedings for verbal presentation of the case, either alone or as a member or leader of a team.
Before the EPO Board of Appeal Jane has successfully defended claims to the second medical use of liposomes for selective delivery of a therapeutic (acting for AntiCancer Inc., Decision T1862/06) and opposed broad claims in a third party patent relating to the second medical use of a combination of active ingredients (acting for University of California; Decision T817/05).
Jane handles work across a broad range of chemical and biochemical topics. Areas of technical specialisation for patent work over the years have included small molecules and peptides, pharmaceuticals (including formulations and delivery systems), further medical uses of a known product (including routes of administration and dosage regimens), and diagnostic methods and associated products.
She has worked with clients throughout the world, e.g. those based in Europe, the USA and Japan, particularly US clients. Jane has experience of working with large, medium and small companies and with universities.
Jane joined JAKemp in 1983 and became a partner in 2001. Jane is recommended by the Managing Intellectual Property (MIP) Handbook.
