Jane has over 30 years’ experience of filing and prosecuting patent applications, particularly at the European Patent Office (EPO). She is highly experienced in filing and defending oppositions and appeals before the EPO. This includes strategic planning of the case and preparing written briefs. She has also attended many oral proceedings for verbal presentation of the case, either alone or as a member or leader of a team.
She has led a team defending in the EPO a patent to a blockbuster drug in which the number of opponents was in double figures. She has also provided litigation support in multiple jurisdictions, particularly where she has been handling related oppositions at the EPO.
Jane handles work across a broad range of chemical and biochemical topics. Areas of technical specialisation for patent work over the years have included small molecules (including polymorphs and metabolites) and peptides, pharmaceuticals (including formulations and delivery systems), further medical uses of a known product (including routes of administration and dosage regimens), and diagnostic methods and associated products. In the pharmaceutical field she has experience of work in a variety of medical areas including the diagnosis and treatment of Parkinson’s disease, Hepatitis C virus, diabetes, various cancers, mitochondrial diseases, and inflammatory and autoimmune diseases. Jane has also worked on cases relating to animal medicines and food supplements.
She has worked with clients throughout the world, e.g. those based in Europe, the USA and Japan, particularly US clients. Jane has experience of working with large, medium and small companies.
Jane also acts to coordinate within J A Kemp foreign law information on many countries.
Jane joined J A Kemp in 1983 and became a partner in 2001.
