Heidi has over 20 years’ experience in the patent profession, primarily gained in private practice in the UK. She has previously been a Partner at the London branch of an Am Law 100 firm and has served as the lead IP counsel for a biopharmaceutical company. Heidi has worked in South Africa as a consultant for several private practice firms as well as working in private practice in Singapore.
A large element of Heidi’s current practice is prosecution and opposition work before the European Patent Office (EPO), and she particularly enjoys representing clients at oral proceedings. Heidi also has significant expertise in providing in-depth validity and infringement advice and this also forms a notable part of her practice. She has additionally accumulated many years of experience in drafting, advising on filing strategies and portfolio management, and foreign patent prosecution.
Heidi handles a broad range of subject matter in the biotechnology and life science fields, with antibody therapeutics and technology being a particular specialism.
Heidi graduated from Oxford University with a first class degree in Biological Sciences and received the R A Knox Memorial Prize for the best first-class performance in a Final Honour School. She qualified as a European patent attorney and as a UK chartered patent attorney in 2002, and received the highest mark in two of the foundation level examinations. Heidi has additionally completed the formal study component for qualifying as an Australian patent Attorney, gaining a graduate diploma in Intellectual Property and the prize for the highest mark in the patent law module. She has previously run a revision course for the foreign patent law module of the UK foundation examinations.
Heidi grew up in Cambridge and is primarily based in J A Kemp’s Cambridge office. She is recommended by the Managing Intellectual Property Handbook.
