Celia is Head of the Chemistry and Pharmaceuticals Group. She has over 30 years' professional experience in drafting and prosecuting patent applications, acting in oppositions and appeals before the European Patent Office for either the Patentee or the Opponent, and advising clients on patent strategy and portfolio management. She has particular experience in coordinating and handling the filing and prosecution of extensive series of patent applications worldwide and has assisted in the defence of a client's patent in litigation in Russia.
Celia's professional practice spans a wide range of chemical technologies, focusing in particular on the pharmaceutical field, where her work includes small molecule medicinal chemistry, medical use inventions, combination therapies and pharmaceutical formulations. She also handles cases on chemical processing, general organic and inorganic chemistry, health foods/nutraceuticals derived from plants and their related medical uses, agrochemicals, and oilfield technology.
Celia has a diverse client base which includes SMEs, universities and large corporations. Her major clients are based in the UK and the USA although she also handles work for companies and organisations in Australia, Canada, Continental Europe and Russia. The Legal 500 identifies Celia as a “recommended individual”.
Celia joined J A Kemp in 1986 and became a partner in 1997.
